Dog Show at the west niagara fairgrounds

As a proud mom to a beautiful Shetland Sheepdog, I can’t help but get excited whenever I spot a Sheltie while travelling. I always have the urge to stop, say hello, and chat with their humans about our beloved babies. There’s just something special about the bond we share as Sheltie parents.

So, imagine my delight when my husband surprised me by planning a Sunday afternoon at the Burlington Kennel & Obedience dog show at the West Niagara Fairgrounds.

This particular show was hosting a specialty event for Collies and Shetland Sheepdogs, and for me, it was nothing short of Sheltie heaven!

The dog show was held inside the barns at the fairgrounds, with several vendor booths offering all kinds of dog-themed items, including keychains, Christmas ornaments, earrings, and other fun finds.

We had the chance to chat with several Sheltie owners and breeders who were waiting to show their dogs. They were friendly and happy to share some insight into the world of dog showing, from the different classes to what goes into preparing a dog for the ring. Of course, meeting so many beautiful Shelties was a highlight for us.

There were also several other breed shows taking place throughout the day. It was fun watching the dogs and their owners head over to the staged photo booth for their professional portraits. Each breed had its own look and personality, and it was interesting to see the variety of dogs all in one place.

The event was free for visitors, and there was even a food vendor serving up favourites like burgers, fries, onion rings, and more.

For anyone who loves dogs, a dog show is a fun and easy way to spend an afternoon. You can watch the competitions, meet breeders and owners, browse the vendors, grab something to eat, and, if you're lucky, get to meet a few dogs along the way.

There are dog shows held throughout Southern Ontario, so if you’re a dog lover, it’s worth keeping an eye out for one happening near you.
